Guest blogging ain't fun

This is the Girlchild reporting some unfortunate news. Around 5:30 on Thursday evening, my mother was getting ready to leave work and talking with her boss when she collapsed and had atleast one seizure. They transported her to the hospital right next door, where they diagnosed her with subarachnoid hemorhaging and helicoptered her to the hospital downtown. Friday afternoon they performed a cerebral angiogram and confirmed that she has a brain aneurysm. Last night they performed surgery to clip the aneurysm, performed by the surgeon she requested, and it went as smoothly as possible. Right now she is in the neurological critical care unit, and we expect her to stay there for atleast a week until they determine there are no further complications. The good news is that she survived long enough to have the surgery performed and the surgery went well. The bad news is that she will not be out of the woods for atleast 10 days. I just thought you all should know. Please keep her in your thoughts, and if you're the praying type we are accepting those as well. I myself have been worshipping at the Grey Goose altar, and I have to say it is quite therapeutic. So...hopefully all will continue to go well and next time I post it can be to regale you all with the crazy tales that arise with each phone call to family members.

Hi - be sure to tell your mom we are all pulling for her and lots and lots of prayers and good wishes and thoughts are going out in her behalf. Is there somewhere we can bombard her with cards to keep her spirits up??

Dear Lord! I am SO sorry to hear this!

I've enjoyed Catherine's writing and corresponding with her occasionally. With all the difficulties she's had in her life, this was something she didn't need.

I will be doing my best to send positive energies her way.

Amie, I would never offend my god in such a manner. Instead I tell the friends who "want to help in anyway they can" that their responsibility is making sure my drunk butt gets McDonalds and a ride home.

I'm in shock with regard to your mother's condition and in awe at your composure, Girlchild.

Damn, the job almost killed her. If THIS doesn't get her to leave ... ;)

Tell your Mom that Kerstin certainly does NOT approve of her latest development. Give her lots of hugs and tell her that she's made me cry and that doesn't happen every day.

I'll be thinking of you all and sending warm thoughts your way.

It was so thoughtful of you to post this information when you must have so much on your mind. What good fortune she was able to get help right away. May her good fortune extend to a speedy and complete recovery.

I'm so glad I cruised by here before getting ready for work this morning. Please, please take care of yourself--your mother would not be able to handle it if something happened to you or the Boy.

Please give Catherine best wishes from Maggie and me--we'll be thinking about her and checking back to see how she's doing.

Very sorry to hear this news - I do hope all goes well - from a long-time 'lurker' in the UK.

Oh God, how awful. I'd been missing an update and wondering what happened with the job.
I said a rosary for her last night and will be sending a prayer request to a monastery I know in the midwest. Why not enlist some monks, you know?
BTW, not only is it amazing how composed you sound, but your wry sense of humor reminds me of someone else... :-) Hang in there!!

Thank you for taking the time to inform us of your mom's condition. While most of us have never met your mom, we follow her life through this great blog. Please let her know our thoughts and prayers are with her and the family.

Perhaps you can smuggle Murphy into the hospital for some doggie kisses and cuddles.

If you're up for it, we appreciate any updates you can provide.

You and your mother are in my prayers. My husband went through serious surgery last month and with the grace of god, an excellent surgeon and modern medicine, is on his way to recovery. Stop listening to the horror stories from the relatives; they mean well (telling you of this person and that who had this problem and whatnot, it doesn't help as each case is so different. God bless you and your family and I wish your mom well.

Debbie G. said...

Oh no! I'm so, so sorry you all have to go thru this. Some things I have learned about your mom from lurking these past few years - she is smart, strong and a fighter (evidenced by her being able to request her surgeon!). These qualities will serve her well as she goes through the next few days. My prayers will be for complete healing for her and for strength and courage for you and Boychild as well.
