The Waiting Is the Hardest Part...

That is the theme song of the past couple of days. Well, actually I've been rewording lots of songs, but that is the least offensive/inappropriate. Yeah, as I said on KR, wish I could give you all an update, but there isn't really a damn thing going on. Nothing is particularly better or worse, which is good, but boring. Tonight we brought my mother a new pillow because she's stiff and uncomfortable, tabloids because she's bored, and Diet Coke because it is nectar of the gods. Actually the caffeine is good for her and it's hard to come by in an Adventist hospital. I've been buying her sodas from the machine, but once I learned the nurses could keep a pack in the fridge for her I ran to Publix. So, yeah. That's about it.

Sue, I will give you a call soon, today was just a no more phone calls for me type of day. I know everyone wants updates, but unfortunately we're just in a holding pattern for now. There is talk of moving her to a normal room in a couple of days if they can get a couple of things under control, so that will be exciting. Nothing major, just necessary steps in the recovery process that take time and haven't happened yet. People keep saying they want to come see her as soon as they can, which makes me laugh because I know as bored as she is she will not want visitors until they wash her damn hair. We are a vain people.

Also I remember a question in the comments about cards, and I don't know what to tell you about that. I know she prefers to remain somewhat anonymous on this thing, so I don't know how the addressing of cards would work out. I will get back to you. Funny story, though. I was leaving the hospital from my afternoon visit and there was a voicemail from my grandmother. She sounds all panicky and whiney, so I begin to fear she's having some sort of crisis at the same damn time. Oh no, she sent a card for my mother, but then she realized not only did she not include a room number, but she also forgot to put my mother's name on it and could I maybe hunt down that card and see that she gets it? Sure, no problem. And that is when I decided today I was not making or receiving phone calls.

If she's bored, that's a great sign! Ditto the Diet Coke. Still praying and sending healing vibes.

I like to work on the assumption that no news is good news, so don't worry, update when you can.

You can let your mom know all her imaginary friends are thinking about her and wishing her a speedy recovery.

Ah, Diet Coke, the elixir of life and the nectar of the gods! Thank you for the update, and I hope you have your own elixir/nectar with you (at the appropriate times of course)!

Thanks, Girlchild. I just wanted you to know we're thinking about you all. Don't call unless you feel like it.

I'm glad to hear that Catherine is awake. Like gencesca said, boredom is good. Take care.

I'm glad to hear that things are somewhat better on the homefront. And yes, waiting is the hardest part, but when it's over, you'll be surprised how fast time passed.

Give Catherine our best wishes and a big hug. Thanks for posting.

I can just hear her hissing "I don't want no damn cards! I want to get the aich outta here!"

Tell her "too bad. She's just too danged loved by too danged many of us. In her next life she can just be a cold fish and boring and everybody will leave her alone.

hugs to you all.

Here is an idea for cards, could you set up a separate email addy at either yahoo or gmail that e-cards could be sent to? That would take care the card issue.

And the fact that she wants her diet Coke is great. Has she asked for some sort of knitting yet? That will be a true sign.

Funny. And I was wondering when your grandmother would skew things a bit.
Love you all, and am glad to hear she's bored.
My word verification is eeqpjbk, which sounds, well, sounds like me quite frequently.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop. You are an able stand-in until your Mom is able to share with us again. And there is nothing I love more than your Mom's tongue in cheeks stories about your grandmother - your made me laugh. Best wishes to her and you in this shitty time.

Thanks for the update. If you figure out a way for us to send cards or e-cards let us know. Other than that try to not snipe at each other as the boredom sets in - I know that's always the worst for dad and I when he's sick!

Thanks very much for the update, Girlchild. Your mother is a strong-willed, ornery woman and I'd say her chances are good.

The present "holding pattern" is a normal stage.

It's sort of like days when there is no mail. No-one wants to contact you; then again, no one's asking for money.

The one good thing about forced inactivity...tabloids. An excuse to read things you would have to hide if you were healthy. Nothing helps like seeing that the thin and undeservedly wealthy have problems of their own.

Tabloids? I was thinking more like World Weekly News. Where does that guy who hatched from the egg live these days, anyway? And did Bigfoot keep all that weight off?

Ooooo!!

The Star has all those great personals, from prisons and such. She could find a pen pal!

Dearest Girlchild,
So good to hear about your momma - I have been keeping her in my tho'ts. Still holding out the hope that we will see her in MD - having been w/her there a couple of years ago (plus at her one KR Retreat), I have been jones-ing for more time w/her.
But then again, aren't we all ^..^
And I love it that she will want to have clean hair before anyone sees her - I like spunk.
Lotsa XOXO to you all.

Geesh...I go away for a few days and all hell breaks loose? Girlchild please tell your fiesty mom, she's in my thoughts and prayers - and that if I can survive a heart attack, she can surely survive this! We're all pulling for Catherine!

And you and Boy Child consider yourselves (((((hugged)))))

Get yourselves some rest if you can? And sometimes the best you can do is turn off the phone and turn on the voice mail!

Praying for y'all. Worrying about hair is a good thing. It's controllable at a time when other things might not be.

Don't forget to take care of yourself as well.

Girlchild, your mom and you and boychild are still in my thoughts and prayers. I check every morning and pray for good news. Tell her we all miss her and her family.

I haven't checked the blog in awhile, and am now sitting here, pretty much stunned. Just last night I was telling my own girlchild about Catherine's "sisterhood is a bunch of crap" (or something like that) post a while back. I had no idea this had happened. I just checked in to see if she'd gotten her raise.

I'm going to walk my dog around the block about 20 times now and concentrate on sending some good thoughts your way.
