I may take a few days off from blogging

because I really feel my inner bitch trying to break free, like the ugly thing bursting out of the guy's chest in Alien. And it is not lost on me that I have no more contemporary pop culture references to describe how I feel, because I'm OLD, okay? I am not fit to be around the Citizens of Bloglandia, let alone KR, until my equilibrium is restored. It's enough that I have to supress all of my frustration at work (my title changed, the insanity didn't) because they pay me to be nice. Nobody pays me to be nice here.

Actual knitting - that's what I need. I finished the Argosy Wrap, photos after it is blocked. That involves several steps of unreleated activity to prepare a place to block it, so don't hold your breath, but I like it a lot. I finished it several days ago, and last night it was after 10 and I was on a ladder in my bedroom re-installing the blinds when I should have been sleeping, and I started to think that maybe I'm developing my mother's manic depression, except I don't do the depressed part. Okay, so I've been purposefully and usefully manic the last few days, and a stint of quiet knitting is what I need. And I started thinking about what I wanted to do. It has to involve the stash, because I am hanging tough on the Year Without New Yarn.

In my stash lurks a large quantity of very soft light worsted superwash wool in a nice heather brown. I bought it on eBay, oh, 4 or 5 years ago, because it was a bargain and so nice and someday I'd figure out what to do with it. So, while I was perched on a ladder with the power screwdriver installing the brackets for the blinds, I realized that it wants to be a nice, big soft comfort shawl. I'm thinking the "Lacy Prairie Shawl" from Folk Shawls- I started that one a while back and loved the pattern, it's my kind of knitting (any moron can do it) but the yarn I chose had way too much twist for it, not to mention random white spots where the dye didn't take (Caveat eBay) and it looked yicky and was frogged. But this nice soft heather brown, oh, so neutral, so office friendly, so mindless, so soothing to the alien that wants to burst forth from my chest and say really nasty things. And since you've seen the things I'm totally willing to say in public, you have to realize how ugly that alien's mouth is.

Back soon, when I can control my snark.

OK...snark at me later, but PLEASE stop telling us how "OLD" you are! It grinds me every time I see it. I'm older than you are and I don't see the need to lean on it all the time. It just ain't that big a deal, huh?! To me, you're nice and young. It would be like you seeing a 30-year-old complain about being old.

I used to have the unfortunate habit of, once I start something, not stopping until I finish it (okay, most things, not everything). I've actually stayed up all night long to finish a vest to wear to work the next day. Planning ahead? Doesn't work for me. Once I decided to paint the entryway to my house, and ended up painting and wallpapering every room in the house.

Even more unfortunately for me, I just don't have the energy to follow through with things like that any more, so a lot of stuff now gets thrown by the wayside. There are times when I miss being able to get up and spend 2 days cleaning house without stopping. These days I can barely do one room before I drop, and it takes a week for me to recover.

No matter what some think, growing older is not equally kind to everyone.

Take some time and relax--you deserve it!

Catherine, I enjoy reading your blog, snark and all! Your honesty and sharp wit are refreshing.

I'll look forward to your return when you've tamed the snark monster.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

Hey,

All the comment instructions are in Spanish!

I love that Lacy Prarie Shawl. Good choice. Isn't it funny how inspiration strikes at strange times?

Enjoy your blogout.

PS We all like it when your inner bitch breaks free.

Yeah! Let the inner bitch be free! ;-)

So when I read that the Lacy Prairie Shawl could be done by any moron, I got my copy of the book down and looked at it, thinking perhaps this moron might tackle it. And... around 11 I got a bunch of nice lavender wool out of the yarn closet and I finished the first 30 rows before I went to bed. You're right. Any moron can do it! Thanks! :-D

Janet- you are not a moron. Catherine is a...Oh, wait. What did Harlot say today?
Have a nice time-out.

Okay, now you made me go read the Harlot, and the Curmudgeon, and the entire comment thread on the Curmudgeon. And no, my personal snarkfest was not triggered by any of that, I don't even read those blogs. But though I have no great love for the Curmudgeon I do share her observation that if you put your stuff out on the Internet, you are opening yourself to comment. It's not like inviting people into your living room - I don't know about anybody else, but my living room can seat 8 people if they're real friendly and two don't mind uncomfortable seats, and it seldom seats strangers, because at a minimum they must not be allergic to cats.

I do agree with the idea that some people create personas on the Net, and IRL they are totally different. I am not. This is me. I won't say anything here that I wouldn't say to anyone's face, and I sound just like this when I talk "live." Though since the Brain Thang, I do pause to reach for words more now and then.
